Enough to Quit

As of this writing, I have now earned enough money from selling my books to quit my job. No, not my regular, 40 hour gig, but my part-time weekend job cleaning a hair salon (God bless you, Chad, for the opportunity!). I was earning right around $300 a month cleaning on the weekends for a couple hours each night, spending my time scrubbing toilets, mopping up hair clippings (they stick to everything!), and polishing mirrors.

No longer. Well, at least not for much longer. I’m giving my friend time to find a replacement. As much as he needs, of course, but the point is this: I’ve made enough money selling books in the past two weeks to pay for more than two months’ worth of cleaning.

Now I have the chance to actually go home at night and spend more time in the evenings with my family. This is the first step taken in a huge dream for me. Okay, technically, it’s not the first step. Writing the books and publishing them would come before that. Let’s call it a significant milestone, then.

The next mile marker is being able to walk away from overtime and taking my holidays when I have my holidays, instead of taking them on my regular days off. Just getting down to working only 40 hours a week would be huge, frankly. After that, the next mile marker is earning enough to quit my day job. I don’t mean to say that I’ll actually do it–at least not right away. But it’s still something I can see on the horizon. Except now it’s just a little bit closer than before.

Found this while reading an article on WND this evening. Look at the ad in the upper right corner.

Yes, that is an ad for MY BOOK! I found it in not one, but at least two articles I was reading this evening. Kudos to my publisher, Rochelle Carter, for getting word out about my book in places where I know my potential readers hang out. I pray it is UBER Successful!

What an amazing thing to see.

Somethin’s Happening Here…

What it is ain’t exactly clear.

What is clear is that The Coppersmith is seriously taking off in the rankings. This is the latest from Amazon, as of 4:35 am on Tuesday, September 4th:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,012 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

That I’ve even cracked the Top 100 in two categories is nothing short of amazing. Part of it, doubtless, is the little hiccup with Amazon’s price matching. Seems Diesel Books was still offering The Coppersmith for sale at their site, a discrepency which has since been rectified. I’m unaware of the book selling anywhere else at the moment. So for the past day or so, people have been getting the book at a serious discount. Maybe that’s led to the sales. It certainly hasn’t hurt my rankings.

Regardless, I’m hard at work on the sequel, and I hope to have it done… before the month is out? We’ll see. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to have something more to offer all these readers!

Totally Amazing!

The Coppersmith has continued to climb in the rankings, as almost 1,700 copies were downloaded overnight.  We have now completely surpassed the high-water mark set by Jefferson’s Road: The Spirit of Resistance, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see us bump up against 10,000 by the end of the promotion (around 2 am EST).

Here are some screen shots:

Many thanks to everyone who’s tweeted, liked, mentioned, and downloaded the book! I hope it scares the snot outta you!

The Coppersmith Is Free to Download

Yes, you read that right. The Coppersmith, my serial killer novel that takes place in Upstate New York (nothing quite like creepin’ out the home folks!) is FREE to Download from Amazon for the next three days.

This is the second “Kindle Promotion” I’ve done so far. We saw more than 6K downloads for the first Jefferson’s Road book. Aside from the freebies, The Coppersmith has outsold Jefferson’s Road by about 2:1.

I’m real curious to see how this works out.

As before, those who SIGN UP FOR MY NEWSLETTER and POST TO FACEBOOK or TWITTER will be entered into a drawing to receive a free, autographed copy of the book.

Meanwhile, I’m hard at work on Topheth, the sequel to The Coppersmith. You can find an excerpt in the back of the book.

New Interview Today

August has been a month of interviews, courtesy of my publisher, Rochelle Carter at Ellechor. I’ve posted three author interviews in various places on the web (and as soon as I locate them all, I’ll supply links!), and today I received the link to a phone interview I did with Irene Watson over at Inside Scoop Live. I’m uploading the MP3 file below if you want to listen.

Interview with Irene Watson.

Oh, now this is cool.

I just discovered that I’ve made my first landing on French soil. Yes. Someone in France has downloaded Jefferson’s Road. Now, I’m not one to think more of myself than I ought, but neither do I dismiss small beginnings, so to speak.

Given that France’s new socialist President is threatening to put a confiscatory 75% tax on the wealthy (See The New York Times), I’m wondering just how well my anti-Marxist, Freedom-oriented book will do over there.

Regardless, we’ve broken past 6.1K books and are still climbing.

What a Month August Is!

This has to be one of the craziest months I think I’ve ever experienced, writing-wise, that is. Not only are we in the midst of this major publicity push for The Spirit of Resistance, resulting in a readership that is shooting exponentially through the roof, but my publisher for The Lost Scrolls has been cranking down hard on the publicity there, as well.

I just got off the phone with Irene Watson, doing my first “live” interview for The Lost Scrolls. That was fun – a little nerve-wracking, if I do say so. The whole time I’m talking I’m experiencing this, “Oh Jesus, please keep me from saying something stoopid!” kind of feeling, and just kind of babbling on. Well, there’s a first time for everything. If I do come off as an idiot, it’s probably accurate, but I’ll still blame the overnight shift and four hours sleep I’ve had.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from this month so far:
